Human Factors Issues in Automobile Accident Cases

On Tuesday, March 5, 2013, The TASA Group, Inc., in conjunction with human factors expert Dr. Stephen Wilcox, presented a free, one-hour interactive webinar, Human Factors Issues in Automobile Accident Cases, for all legal professionals.

During this program, the presenter provided:
  • An overview of the discipline of human factors and how it applies to forensic matters.
  • A detailed discussion of the human factors issues that are relevant to automobile cases, including, particularly, the factors that affect reaction time and visibility.
  • Examples of automobile cases where human factors expertise has been applied.



About the Expert

Stephen, B. Wilcox is a principal and the founder of Design Science (Philadelphia), a 25-person firm that specializes in human factors consulting for major corporations, primarily to support the development of products and equipment. Dr. Wilcox is a member of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Academy of Fellows. He has served as a Vice President and member of the IDSA Board of Directors, and Chair of the IDSA Human Factors Professional Interest Section. He also serves on the Human Factors Engineering Committee of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), the Advisory Board of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design. Dr. Wilcox holds a BS in Psychology and Anthropology from Tulane University, a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Penn State, and a Certificate in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Wilcox chaired the 2000 IDSA National Conference in New Orleans and co-chaired the Include 2009 Conference on inclusive design at the Royal College of Art in London. He has won design awards from IDSA and from International Design magazine, guest edited the journal Innovation several times, and served as a judge for a number of product design awards competitions. He has also given many invited addresses to various organizations and has published more than 65 articles and book chapters.

Dr. Wilcox has served as an expert witness in the area of human factors in hundreds of legal matters for both plaintiff and defense.
