The Proper Safety Zones for Sporting/Recreational Venues

On July 21, 2011, at 2 p.m. ET, The TASA Group, Inc., in conjunction with expert witness Tom Bowler, presented a free, interactive, one-hour webinar, The Proper Safety Zones for Sporting/Recreational Venues, for all legal professionals.

Spacing and obstructions in a recreational setting can create important issues in recreational accident lawsuits. Participants in recreational activities may come in contact with walls, equipment/supplies, and other fixed objects. This presentation will help the legal professional understand some of the issues involved in a buffer/safety zone lawsuit.

  • Buffer safety zones for bikes and stair machines in health/fitness centers
  • Mirror guidelines for health/fitness centers
  • Buffer/use zones for playground equipment



About the Expert

Over the last 18 years, Tom Bowler has served as an expert witness/consultant on over 300 cases for both plaintiff and defense attorneys throughout the United States. Tom received his B.S. degree in physical education from the University of Connecticut in 1966. In 1973, he earned his M.Ed. from Springfield College. In 1981, Tom received his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from the University of Connecticut.

Tom taught elementary physical education for thirty-three years in Vernon, Connecticut. His credentials include high school coaching early in his career. He has been director of intramurals and recreation at a division III university. Tom was an adjunct lecturer teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Lastly, Tom is credentialed by two recognized playground entities promoting playground safety. He is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector endorsed by the National Recreation and Park Association. Also, he is certified by the National Program for Playground Safety.
