Exploring Negative Communication

When engaging in conversation or involved in a case about communication repercussions, it is important to know the different ways that people can interpret communication.

Negative Communications: The Process of Absorption and Transmission, an article new to our Knowledge Center, highlights the importance of realizing the different ways that messages can be interpreted, in order to understand communication on a deeper level. 

The author mentions two ways that negative information can be disseminated:

  1. The sender targets it to specific people or outlets that are targeted specifically; and 

  2. The sender uses a “shotgun” approach and disseminates it for mass distribution and all to see.
