Hours of Service for Commercial Transportation

TASA ID:

Transportation System, Freight, Haul, Big Rig

In an effort to enlighten the commercial transportation industry about cause of accidents and other unsafe practices, a study was conducted in order to evaluate the Hours of Service rule implemented by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Drivers completed surveys asking about their attitudes towards safety and if the Hours of Service rule is effective.

The article discusses how important it is for this information to be revealed, both from a safety and legal standpoint. Lawsuits can be avoided, human resources issues can be addressed, and insurance premiums may be able to be lowered. Taking note of these findings will only help possible issues to be uncovered and addressed, and is much better than sweeping them under the rug.

In conclusion, drivers overall agreed that multiple methods of reinforcement are necessary for these rules to work, and they themselves do not follow them. To read the full study, please click here.
